Design of Dell D3100

Dell D3100 Docking Station design is just like any other Dell docks. Its sleek matte-black box is particularly small (6.5 × 2.98 × 1.1) and is made to sit horizontally on your desk. Manufacture’s logo sits on its black plastic, and the DisplayLink logo is near the USB ports.

The bottom of the dock is layered with a non-slip rubber that helps it to stick to one place on your desk. The power adapter of D3100 is particularly small compared to ones that come with your Laptop.

D3100 Ports

The D3100 is full of ports. The fore part features three USB ports with an audio jack alongside it. The back features two USB ports, power adapter input, two HDMI ports, DisplayPort, Ethernet jack, and a USB port.

However, it doesn’t support Type-C, so if you want to connect a device through USB-C, you will need to buy a dongle or a USB-A-to-USB-C adapter. The D3100 comes with an HDMI-to-DVI adapter, so if your monitor does not support HDMI, you can connect your monitor through it.

Performance of Dell D3100

The Dell3100 connects to three monitors at a time with one 4K and two Full HD monitors. At first, I attached a monitor to the dock through the DisplayPort, a sleek and beautiful 4k output with no lag. After that, I connected another 4K display over HDMI, it maxed out at 2560 × 1440, while the first monitor’s output was still at 4K.

After that, I connected three monitors at the same time, the HDMI connected screen’s resolution dropped while the DisplayPort monitor was still running at 4K. The Dell3100 has a very nice setup with one 4K and two Full-HD screens. It may get a bit overpowered with the three monitors plugged in and web browsing on it, but overall, the docking station is an excellent device for your Laptop.

Final Verdict

The Dell D3100 is an affordable Triple Display Docking Station with price tag of around $100. It features 4K display with two additional Full-HD screens alongside it. The design is excellent, extra USB 3.0 port is another advantage. However, it does not support Type-C, but you can solve that problem with an adapter or dongle.

Overall, it is a great deal for three screens and so many ports to take advantage of.
