Design of Kensington SD5200T

The Kensington SD5200T is small in size but is quite heavy than any other docks on the market. It weighs up to 1.3 kilograms and measures at 21 × 8.5 × 2 cm. It has a horizontal design, and metallic casing with silver and black color looks very attractive and can match your peripherals on your desk.

The device has the ability to stick itself on your desk giving it additional stability if you have several devices connected to it. All the four sides are covered with a band of aluminium except for the one corner with two USB ports.  It looks aesthetically pleasing.

Kensington SD5200T Ports

The Kensington SD5200T features two USB-C ports, one of it features Thunderbolt 3 while the second is for the host laptop. It allows you to connect two external monitors to the dock through the Thunderbolt 3 port and DisplayPort. This dock supports a single display at 5K while two displays at 4K resolution.

Ports of SD5200T

The SD5200 comes with Ethernet port, DisplayPort, a USB-A 3.0 port on the rear and the other USB 3.0 on the front side. There is also a 3.5 mm microphone and a headphone jack with a Kensington Lock Slot so your device can’t be stolen.

Performance of Kensington Thunderbolt 3 Dock

We tested the Kensington Thunderbolt 3 on MacBook Pro. The first nice feature that we like is its 85-watt power supply which provide enough power to charge your laptop. After that, to test its performance, we connect a 5K monitor to the dock through the DisplayPort. It smoothly played the 5K video at 60Hz refresh rate which was very impressive.

Now its time to connect two 4K monitors. So we hookup the first monitor through the DisplayPort and the second through the USB-C supporting Thunderbolt 3. Both the monitors were at 4K resolution without any issues.

Overall, the Kensington SD5200T Thunderbolt 3 Docking Station works flawlessly either that’s one monitor (5K) or two monitors (4K). The fact that it can supply power to your computer up to 86 watts makes it one of the best dock for the laptop.
