Microsoft Launches the new Surface Book 3, Surface Go 2, and Surface Headphones 2

Microsoft revamped its Surface lineup with all-new Surface Book 3 and Surface Go 2, aka the cheapest Windows 10 tablet.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the new laptops and accessories are announced by a blog post. This year’s new Surface Book 3 is upgraded with the latest 10th Gen CPU and optional 32GB RAM. As for Surface Go 2, it is still cheaper with similar body design but a larger 10.5-inch display. Both new devices get the latest 802.11ax or WiFi 6 upgrade along with the new Bluetooth 5.

Microsoft also announced the new Surface Headphones 2, which again precisely the same in design with new features and performance upgrades. Moreover, the previously announced Surface Earbuds now be available on the official store, and you might found it on other retailers as well.

The Surface Book 3 is a next-gen high-performance 2-in-1 convertible laptop with a detachable tablet design. It was first introduced in 2017, and even after three years, it continues to be the most favorite and premium design laptop. The new SB 3 comes with 10th Gen Intel Core i5 and i7 processor with the option of up to 32GB RAM and 2TB SSD storage. It is available in 13.5-inch and 15-inch variants like the last released model.

For the first time, along with Nvidia GeForce, Microsoft has also added the option for the Quadro graphics. The Nvidia Quadro chipset is commonly used in the workstation-grade Laptop’s commercial and multimedia production.

There is not a notable price difference the Surface Book 3 starts from $1599 in the US and £1599 in the UK. However, it is currently available for pre-order only, and the shipment will start on 21 May 2020.

Microsoft Surface Go 2

Microsoft also upgraded it’s cheaper Surface Go 2 with a larger screen and 8th Gen Intel Core M processor. Overall there is no design change in both Surface Book 3 and Surface Go 2. However, you can see a massive upgrade in the internal specification.

The smaller Surface Go 2 is now 64% faster than the previous Surface Go and comes with longer battery life. It also has a 1080p 5-megapixel front-facing camera with improved microphones for online business meetings and communication.

Something that has become more important these days.

As for the price, the Surface Go 2 starts from $399 in the US and £399 in the UK and will be available for order from 12 May 2020.

Surface Headphones 2

Along with the new Laptop and tablet, Microsoft also revamped the Surface Headphones with better sound quality and longer battery life. You can now enjoy up to 20 hours of playtime. Moreover, you can now adjust the noise cancellation through intuitive on-ear dials. You can now tune your Surface Headphones 2 to either block out or amplify human voices for a better sound experience.

By the look of it, you don’t see any difference. However, it is more comfortable and improved as compared to its previous model. And there is a new Matte Black color option now available in addition to the classic Platinum.

The Surface Headphones start from $249 in the US and £239.99 in the UK. You can place your pre-order now, and the shipment will start on 5 June 2020.

The Surface Earbuds were announced in October 2019 but were delayed, and now Microsoft will start shipping these new AirPods alternatives from 12 May. You will probably need the Surface Earbuds 2 in 2021, but for now, these might be the best earbuds to equip with Surface Go 2 and Book 3.

The Surface Earbuds are available in light grey color for $199 in the US and £199 in the UK. You can place your pre-order on the official Microsoft Store today.

Microsoft also announced the long-waited Surface Dock 2. Now you can expand your workspace with two 4K monitors and connect external storage. The new docking station now can also deliver faster charging and high data transfer speed.

Along with Surface Dock 2, Microsoft also announced USB-C Travel Hub. The new portable USB-C Hub can connect up to 5 devices, including two display outputs via HDMI and VGA. You can also find Ethernet port, USB 3.1 Gen 2, and USB-C for external drives and charging smartphones and tablets.

What does it mean for Surface Book 2 and Surface Go; Do I need Upgrade?

Now with the newer release of Surface Book 3 and Surface Go 2, the previous models are available for a significantly low price. You will see more price drop in the future.

Surface Book 2 is still the best Laptop for business and daily use. However, the newer version is available with up to 6GB of GTX 16 Ti and Quadro for high-end performance.

You can save up to $500 on Surface Book 2 on Microsoft Store. And hopefully, the price will drop more in the future.

For Go 2, if you already own the Surface Go, I don’t personally recommend you upgrading to a newer model. It is an excellent alternative to iPad Pro, but it lacks lots of features because of Windows 10 S.

The Surface Go is designed for browsing, streaming, and note-taking. If you are happy with your existing model, then you should keep using it until you feel like you need to upgrade. Meanwhile you can check the latest Surface Go Deals here.
